TOP HIKES WITH TALLEST TREES
Grove of the Patriarchs, Mount Rainier National Park
This easy family-friendly hike is a marvelous one, which meanders through some of the largest old growths in Washington. The trail contains ancient Hemlocks, cedars and Douglas Firs with some trees towering in at 300-feet in height and 40-feet in circumference.
The Tall Tree Groves, Redwood National Park
This 3.9 round-trip mile trail requires a visitors permit and a hefty drive to reach the trailhead. Once home to the tallest tree ever discovered. The remaining trail features a serene and quiet atmosphere.
Trillium Falls Trail, Redwood National Park
This 2.8 round-trip mile trail leads through a path of old-growth trees. Unfortunately, the noise level is active due to the trail being near the Highway 101. If hikers can handle the real world noise, the Redwoods are impressive, giant and spectacular.
Congress Trail, Sequoia National Park
If hikers only have time to trek one trail in Sequoia, this would be the trail. This trail features the popular and world famous Sherman Tree along with other sequoia trees. This easy three-mile round-trip hike is accessible year-round and is a wonderful winter snowshoeing hiking trail. The trail is sprinkled with wildflowers during the warmer months and hikers may spot wildlife such as black bears, ravens and mule deer.
Haleakala’s Bamboo Forest, Maui
Most people think of coniferous trees when pondering about tall trees. Hikers head through a bamboo forest where the bamboo towers over the boarded trail. Hikers also encounter a giant Banyan tree, which may not be large in height, but is extremely large in width. The rewards pay off with trickling creeks and magnificent waterfalls to showcase the best of Hawaii’s tropical landscape.
