Too often enough, many newbi yogis are anxious to get flexible fast. Too often are yoga instructors forcing inflexible bodies into positions to deepen the pose and the experience.
As research continues to evolve, we are understanding that it’s not just muscles that are lengthening but its also connective tissue and fascia. Deepening too hard too fast may overstretch ligaments and tendons and so forth. This is where, “I got injured in my yoga class.” is a common example of understanding that you went too quickly. Sometimes the best and most effective pose is the regressed pose so you understand the concepts and get in touch with the feeling. Many times, what we think we are doing correctly we are not all for the sake of reaching our hands to the ground or to push our leg into a certain position.
