Winter season is bad news for water lovers. The water is cold, dreary and possibly frozen. But the great news is that it’s summer somewhere in the world. And that somewhere is the Southern Hemisphere. Grab your board and get your plane ticket ready as you venture toward tropical, pristine waters. From Australia to Brazil, the S.H. boasts SUP-able waters year round. Get ready for fun in the sun, where the weathers warm and the waters are clear.

Byron Bay, Australia
Head on down to New South Wales where the waves are lovely and the people are friendly. This hippie beach town boasts boards of all kinds. Surfers, SUPers and kayakers flood the ocean for a frolic with the sea. During migration season, it is possible to spot humpbacks or their blows from a distant.

Costa Verde, Brazil
Located near Rio is Costa Verde, which is new to the SUP scene. This means less boards and more ocean to paddle. The shoreline is sheltered by an island, which offers temperate waters and gentle waves. Board tours are available through Tofino Expeditions.

Rotorua, New Zealand
Rotorua is located in the central North Island of New Zealand. The town is popular with tourists actively seeking geothermal waters. Although this is not the most common SUP destination, it’s gaining popularity. SUPers glide across the freshwater springs.  Lakes, narrow channels and breathtaking sunrises are a part of this experience unlike any other shoreline.

Tahiti
You name it and you got it in Tahiti. One can find thousands of SUP locations on the calm Tahitian waters. The best part of SUPing in Tahiti is that if you get tired you can lay back and relax on the board. Or possibly have your own private SUP yoga session. Bring a Mai-Tai as you paddle your way throughout paradise.

Philippines
Explore hidden lagoons, jungle rivers and turquoise lakes in the Philippines. The coved in waters are magnificent and seamlessly calm. Bohol and Coron Island are two popular destinations. For those who like destination packages check out SUP Tours for a variety of options.

Chile
Explore rivers and shoreline in Chilean waters. Pucon in Southern Chile is a kayak and SUP hot spot. Wear a wet suit as you explore the grand, but cold, shoreline and swells of Matanzas. Chile’s pristine landscape makes this a unique SUPing destination, like New Zealand.
