Standup Paddle Boarding

When life hands you a paddle, you go strong toward the head-winds and the waves. No more floating around with excuses that “I can’t change my life”. Even paddling on the board is a workout in its own. Scared of falling off? There is no need to! We fall in life and on a board. In fact, it’s only a refreshing dip in the water that may keep us sane from stress. Paddling on the knees is the most basic version of paddling before progressing to a standing position.
TRX Low Rows

Pull yourself to success in your fitness journey. The TRX row is implemented in various different ways, but the low row demonstrated here is great to strengthen the back for activities that we do in our daily life. This position strengthens the upper body for ‘things’ that we do such as vacuuming, putting luggage in the overhead compartment or simply picking up a grocery bag. This is also beneficial for people who have shoulder issues that can not row with wider arms.
Cable Squats

Do you do squats daily? The answer is yes, we all do! Standing up and sitting down from a chair, essentially is a squat. A squat is a functional exercise that strengthens and prepares our bodies for activities of daily living (ADL’s). There are hundreds of various ways to perform a squat.
TRX Plank with Abduction

Get Strong, Get Fit, Get TRX’d. TRX is a group suspension training tool that allows individuals to utilize their own body weight to perform various exercises. The TRX builds core strength, balance, flexibility and overall muscle tone. Either the hands or feet are in the trx handles. Experiencing a TRX plank is unlike any other plank you have incorporated in the past.
Medicine Ball Exercises

Medicine balls are utilized in various strength and cardiovascular exercises. These weighted balls originated as a tool used to rehabilitate the elderly during World War II. Med balls are suitable for various ages and fitness levels. Medicine balls allows our bodies to move with a full range of motion and improves coordination, flexibilty, joint integrity and full-body strength.
WRPA Magazine Cover

The Winter 2012 issue of the Washington Recreation & Parks Association (WRPA) put me on the front cover of the magazine! This is another variation of a pigeon pose instantly captured as the 50 gallon bucket dumped the water into the “beach pool”.
Being Creative

Although we have no specific name of this position, yoga inspires our creative side. Influenced by dance and yoga, you never know what will happen or what pose you will come up with, but that in itself is the beauty of life. Live in the moment and welcome new experiences.
DragonFly – Parsva Bhuja Dandasana

This high-flying pose really does mimic a dragonfly – multifaceted, creative and beautiful. Dragonflys are important predators of smaller insects. In the pose, we are predators of our smaller fears such as falling, failing or confidence.
Eight Angle Pose – Astavakrasana

Need a reminder on how important breathing is during exercise? Just take a look at this photo as encouragement that physical strength requires deep breathing and maybe some bulging eyes to get through the asana. This pose requires strong adductors, core and arms, but when in the position a sense of confidence and “Oh my god, did I just do that?” floats through the mind.
